The Sleeping Bear Birding Trail continues to make advances with the first of its kind: Bonus Birding Loops, planned itineraries offering more outstanding birding possibilities in Northwest Michigan. The main Sleeping Bear Birding Trail follows tightly the Lake Michigan shoreline through three counties, yet outstanding seasonal and year round birding exists across the breadth of each county.
From the beginning, the Trail has planned to identify Bonus Birding Loops starting on M-22, and connecting additional high quality birding sites inland, and then looping back to M-22. Well, the first of our bonus loops is out and ready for your viewing. Just click on the Birding Sites tab above and then select Benzie Loop, to the right. The new page is long; it covers 13 additional sites, but it includes a map and thorough annotations of each recommended site. The new Benzie Loop also includes several suggestions for birding by kayak or canoe. Check them out.
