One of the most frequent comments we had at our headquarters this summer was interest in developing Birding Loops, or smaller subsets of the Trail that would take birders through a very detailed itinerary that could be completed in a day. The Benzie Loop is near completion and this loop will take birders through grasslands and a number of different riparian environments scattered along the Betsie and Platte River watersheds.
There are many exceptional properties that will provide birders with a great diversity of species. Areas include a wilderness birding paddle, a paved biking trail, and extensive grasslands and wetlands. This trail will be the first of five planned loops which include, the Manistee, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Sleeping Bear Dunes and the Leelanau Tip areas. Stay tuned throughout the fall and winter for more developments.
