The Birdtrax “barometer” has hit 212 species in the past two weeks. Our Birdtrax widget on the homepage shows sightings on the Trail in a rolling two week format. Last year on May 20th, there were 204 species and the season peaked out on May 27th at 210 species. The greater number of birds thus far this year could be due to some later than normal laggards due to the delayed spring. Is there any statistical significance of this observation? Doubtful, but the widget helps us gauge when the peak seems to be approaching and by clicking on the ‘+’ sign, birders can share in who is seeing what and where.
