They are definitely here. We have moved closer to peak migration with 196 reported species on Birdtrax in the past two weeks and 27 warbler species represented on that list. Least Flycatchers were everywhere at Otter Creek today and Great Crested Flycatchers seemed to dominate the tree tops, both ubiquitous, welcome sounds of spring. White Pelicans were seen at Portage Lake Wetlands and seven varieties of shorebirds were seen at Arcadia Marsh. A Peregrine Falcon and Osprey were seen at the Arcadia Lakeshore. 21 warblers were recorded at Sleeping Bear Point on Saturday morning with Bay-breasted making an appearance. Clay-colored Sparrows spent the day at the Dune Climb in the National Lakeshore and a shy (apologize for the distant image) first of season Prairie Warbler was recorded at Good Harbor Bay. The more turbulent weather on its way for the next few days could provide some interesting birding opportunities……….
