It has been an enjoyable late summer at my sitting spot along the Trail. Three Brown Thrashers ( a pair nested nearby) continue to hang out along a nice edge habitat I can watch. Cat birds were in the brush. Flycatchers, warblers, a phoebe, and a gathering, growing colony of flickers have kept the spot busy. Flickers are colony birds, extended families of a species that gather together and migrate more or less intact. I’ve now counted between 15 and 20 individuals. The colony may continue to grow as I seen as many as 25+ at one time. Tracking migration and forecasting the likelihood of a good outing is getting a lot easier. Go to www.birdcast.info for a good variety of bird migration forecast information including species specific info, plus excellent forecast maps.
