The eBird Birdtrax widget on the Homepage details all sightings seen in the SBBT area in the past two weeks. As of April 19th, there have been 137 species recorded since April 5th, up from the sixties just two weeks ago! This species count will always be an active barometer of birding activity on the Trail and it is fun to see who is seeing what and where. The number of checklists reflects the number of checklists on which those 137 species were recorded, not the actual number of checklists submitted in the past two weeks. If you click on Checklists, it will download the actual checklists submitted in our area which total 353 for the two week period ending April 19th.
The widget is picking up all checklists within a 50km radius of Honor, MI which encompasses almost the entire SBBT area and a good portion of Grand Traverse County. The 50km radius is the current limit of the software for the format we have chosen. Hopefully this will be expanded by eBird in the near future so we can encompass all corners of our area.
Check in regularly as you try to expand your annual list and shoot for your ‘Big Year’. See the attached link for more information from eBird on Birdtrax.
